Little Richard was a hugely influential musician in the early years of rock and roll. He is best known for his songs “Tutti Frutti” and “Long Tall Sally”, which were both huge hits when they were released in 1955. With his energetic vocals, flamboyant stage presence, and unique musical style, Little Richard helped to shape the sound of rock and roll and laid the foundation for many artists who came after him. 

Born Richard Wayne Penniman in 1932, Little Richard grew up in a poor family in Georgia.

He began playing music at a young age, and by his teens he was performing with various bands around the south. In 1955, he signed with Specialty Records and recorded his first hit song, “Tutti Frutti”. His career took off from there, and he went on to release a string of successful singles and albums throughout the 1950s and 1960s. 

Although he retired from music in the 1970s, Little Richard made a comeback in the 1980s with a series of live performances and album releases. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy Awards in 1993. Little Richard is considered to be one of the most important and influential musicians of all time.
